Azar House Pregnancy Resource Center (PRC) helps men and women who experience unexpected pregnancies through providing counseling with an advocate, trainings, and other resources.
“There is nothing more wonderful for advocates as when a woman or man who came in the door in tears leaves with a smile full of hope and empowerment to face their life ahead,” Sandy Snow, Executive Director of Azar House PRC, said.
Snow said all of Azar’s services are free and confidential, which can be important in this community. They provide pregnancy testing, ultrasound, and prenatal vitamins with referrals to doctors and public health in Star Valley.
According to Azar’s website, it offers free programs including Earn While You Learn parenting classes, post abortion recovery, pregnancy loss support, healthy relationship education, accurate information on parenting, adoption and abortion, non-judgemental, mentoring, and community referrals.
“Our Earn While You Learn program allows women and men to learn about prenatal health, postnatal health, and how to take care of their baby after delivery but there are so many more lessons,” Snow said. “Each client picks the lesson they would like and an advocate walks them through the session.”
The clients earn “Mommy Money” and “Daddy Dollars” which can be used to purchase all baby furniture, clothing, diapers or various baby items, Snow said. If these items are not needed they also offer gift certificates for groceries and gas.
Snow said, “We do not receive any state or federal funding. All of our funding comes from our community members. We have a very generous community that support us and believe in what we’re doing.”
The feedback Azar receives is all positive with patients saying they are so glad they are here, their advocate was very helpful, they didn’t feel judged, and thank them for the support, Snow said.
“There is a tremendous amount of emotions these women and men face in an unexpected pregnancy,” Snow said. “Our advocates listen and help them sort out what is weighing on them most heavily. Sometimes just being able to talk through their circumstances helps them gain a better perspective.”
Snow said each person who comes through their doors is unique and so is their situation, and Azar House PRC is here to assist them. They provide help, compassion, and hope. Those who experience unexpected pregnancies are not alone and do not have to go through their situation alone.
“When they feel they are in a difficult situation it is often hard to see any way out, but being able to address each obstacle can help them gain a new perspective,” Snow said.
